Particular attention
is to be focused upon the modern landslide on the east valley
slope of Coal Gulch, the landslide features within the unnamed
drainage between the Sanborn Creels and Coal Gulch drainage and
the modern landslide on the west valley slope of Hawksnest Creek.
If new mass movement features are noted, they are to be brought
to the attention of the Division.
The June visual inspection was performed beginning on May 30,
1995 during spring monitoring in the upper Coal Gulch area. The
landslide feature had been releasing minor rock fall debris onto
the trail below the slide during the spring run-off. Upper scarp
markings were evident, but no indication of recent mass movement
was based on appearance of soil and vegetation in the bottom of
the scarp trenches and along the toe of the slide. The rock fall
debris was cleared from t}re trail by the Forest Service during
the summer.
Winter snowpack remained above 8,000-foot elevation, but the
permit area along the ridge above the active workings in Sections
3 and 10 was observed for any new mass movement features. The
eastern permit area in Sections 1 and 2, along with the landslide
feature in Hawksnest Creek drainage was also inspected.
During June monitoring on June 5, the southern permit area along
the highway in Sections 9, 10, 11, and 12, along with the
landslide feature in the unnamed drainage were inspected. No new
mass movement features were noted in any of the areas inspected.
Sanborn Creek Mine P.O. Box 535 Somerset, Colorado 81434 Phone (970) 929.5122 Fax (970) 929.5177
