1.5 Sanborn Creek Mine Discharge
Outfa11011 is the mine water discharge from the Sanbom Creek Mine, which dischazges
into Sanbom Creek. Outfall 011 was monitored for the full suite of groundwater pazameters
quarterly for 1996, as required by Technical Revision No. 20. The data for Outfall 011 are
contained in section 5
During 1994, MSHA granted approval to use the idle C-Seam workings as a sump. This
has increased the retention time to settle out the suspended solids from the mine dischazge water.
Weekly monitoring of Outfall 011 for the discharge permit requirements has shown continued
compliance with the total suspended solids effluent limitation. As a result of the continued
compliance, the discharge permit was amended to sampling for Total Suspended Solids on a
monthly basis, beginning with the fourth quarter of 1995. Field pazameters aze still measured
weekly.
The annual mine inflow study is presented on the Mine Inflow Map in section 7. No
significant changes to mine inflow have occurred in the past yeaz.

11
