<br />RECEIVED <br />FEB 0 7:2003 <br />BENSON PIT ANNUAL REPORT Division of Minerals and Geology <br />PERMIT #M-1977-256 <br />The Benson Pit was in operation in 2002. The pit was mined from July 16, to October 3, <br />2002. <br />During that time 41,261 tons of/a" class C, 7,910 tons of 2 %z" minus sub-base, and 3,200 <br />tons of 6" minus sub-base was produced for a total of 52,371 tons of material crushed. <br />Also, an estimated 30 tons of pit run material was removed. <br />The pit was expanded eastward under a power line with special care taken to leave ample <br />solid ground for support of existing power poles. <br />At the end of mining, the high wall was sloped and contoured for safety and to prevent <br />erosion. <br />There are presently stock piles of/4" gravel, 2 1.2" minus sub-base, and 6" minus sub- <br />base, 4" to 6" cobble rock, and topsoil and clay topsoil overburden material in the pit. <br />These materials to be removed and used as needed by Grand County Road and Bridge <br />and Denver Water Board. <br />This pit is monitored for erosion and weed control is in effect by Grand County Natural <br />Resources. <br />
