Operations
were greatly complicated when the dike separating Stage 0 and Stage I ruptured on
June 4, 1978. The Stage 0 lake was 90% filled with water at the time of rupture.
When the dike gave way, the retained water rushed into the operations area of Stage I
flooding the area and badly damaging equipment on the floor of the pit. Fortunately
this occurred on a weekend when no one was working. For safety sake it has been
decided not to rebuild the dike. The north-central part of the old dike has peen
excavated leaving a smal Bland of the southern part of the old dike above the
rupture area (colored reen~ n the attached map). On the north end of Stage: 0 and I
(colored_pink) is an area used for overburden and soil storage that will be reclaimed
during 1979. The back area of Stage 0 has been resloped at a scale of 3:1 loran e
area) and will be revegetated during 1479. In addition, an area on the west side of
Stage I h:is been sloped during 1979 bleu area). Our timetable for mininP an~i '
reclamation has been disrupted during the 1978 mining year. Because of some changes
in plans ~ow under discussion, it may be necessary during 1979 for us to make .3
technical revision to our approved application.
Reference is made to MLRB Rules and Regulations, effective July 1, 1978, Sec tio~t 2.40
2.41 (1) There were 5.43 acres mined in 1978* - see map included.
*
(2) There was no acreage completely reclaimed in 1978.
*
(3) There were 4.20 acres backfilled and sloped in 1978 -see map included.
(4) C]ot applicable.
(5) Not applicable.
(6) Not applicable.
*
(7) We expect to affect approximately 4.90 acres in the 1979 mining year.
Please see map for location of acreage.
(8) The Annual Report date for this pit is March 22. The effective date
for all information herein is March 15, 1979.
*Date references are 1978 = March 22, 1978 to March 21, 1979.
1979 = March 22, 1979 to March 21, 1980.
LA MAR CANON CITY PUEBLO
