EASTSIDE MINE Summary of 1998 Water Monitoring Extent of Minin No mining has occurred at the Eastside Mine since December 1994. The buildings and surface facilities were removed from the minesite, the portals were sealed and surface area was regraded in May, June and July of 1995. Eastside Coal Company requested and was granted a Phase I Bond Release in December of 1995. In September of 1995 the disturbed area was reseeded with the approved seed mixture as listed in the approved Mining and Reclamation Permit. The area is inspected on a quarterly basis to ensure the stormwater management plan and sediment control system are functioning properly. Elow and Eield Parameters The flow and field parameters of the Harvey Gap Outlet above and below the mine continue to demonstrate the seasonal discharges from the Harvey Gap Reservoir. The Above Mine pH ranged from 7.0 t0 8.0. The conductivity ranged from 724 to 434 microohms/cm. Temperature ranged from 19.4 to 5.2 degrees centigrade. The Below Mine pH ranged from 7 to 8. Conductivity ranged from 870 to 985 microohms/cm. Temperature ranged from 18.9 to 0.2 degrees centigrade. The Seep pH ranged from 7 to 8. Conductivity ranged from 1153 to 1015 microohms/cm. Temerature ranged from 3.7 to 13.6 degrees centigrade. No significant deviations from the 1985-1997 field data are noted. Chemical Parameters The chemical parameter results of the Harvey Gap Outlet above the mine and below the mine generally fall within the ranges established 1985-1997. Boron and Flouride were not detected in any of the samples. There was no water discharged from the four inch steel pipe installed in the portal seal from the Eastside Mine. Impacts on Surface and Ground Water No discharge has occurred from sediment pond SP-1 or from the underground mine workings. The water monitoring data are listed on the attached tables found 4
