• Soil Salvage and Storage. The disturbance azea from which soil was salvaged and the soil stockpile
sites as of December 31, 2004 aze shown on the Yoast Mine 2004 Reclamation Map. During 2004,
there was soil salvaged from 20.4 acres all of which was live handled and respread on reclaimed land,
in addition soil was removed from stockpiles L, M and Q and respread.
The volume of soil remaining in stockpiles as of December 31, 2004 was determined by Geld survey.
The stockpile volumes as of December 31, 2004 aze listed in Table 04.1. As of December 31, 2004,
there were 596.9 acre-feet of soil stockpiled in the mining area.
Soil Replacement. Topsoil was replaced on 64.8 acres of disturbed area in 2004. Therefore, the
total remaining life-of--mine disturbance azea requiring topsoil as of December 31, 2004 is 492.2 acres.
Soil Replacement Thiclmess. The soil balance as of December 31, 2004 for the remaining life-of-
mine is calculated as follows:
Mine Area
Total disturbance area = 858.9 acres
Permanent Facilities & Topsoil replaced = 366.7 acres
Disturbance area requiring soil = 492.2 acres
Soil in stockpiles (T'able 04.1) = 596.9 acre-feet
Mean replacement depth available = ].2 feet
By dividing the soil available by the area requiring soil replaced, we arrive at the 2004 soil balance
thickness of 1.2 Eeet for the thine azea. Enough topsoil has been salvaged to reclaim the existing
• disturbance with the permitted tninimum replacement thickness of 1.0 foot
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
A total of 64.5 acres were seeded/planted in 2004. The area was seeded using Seed Mia #IA (see
Table 04.1, Seed Mix #lA, for constituents).
No concentrated shrub seeding was conducted in 2004.
Shrub Plots. Approxanately 6,250 seedlings were planted at Yoast; locations of the sites are shown
on the attached 2004 Reclamation Map. Following is the breakdown indicating the number of
seedling species planted in each azea.
North Area
Gambel oak 200
Serviceberry 400
Chokecherry 350
Mtn. Mahogany 100
Northern Valora Pit:
Gambel oak 800
Serviceberry 2,000
Chokecherry 1,300
• Snowberry 700
Mtn. Mahogany 400
