J. Mucklow, Routt County Extension
Director, Colorado State University, inspected the Kerr Mine and
made the following recommendations for grazing in 1994 (copy of
addendum is attached):
1. Graze in late summer (Mid August) after
the grasses have matured.
2. Reduce stocking rate to 68 AUM's.
3. Graze all the animal units in the shortest
amount of time practical, thus graze 68 cows
for 30 days.
The area and acreage to be grazed will be the same as in
the previous years.
Part of the impetus for submittal of the grazing plan at
this time has been DMG requests for initiation of grazing in order
to address concerns relative to woody plant reestablishment. Given
that both the DMG and Kerr concur relative to potential beneficial
long term effects of grazing, your cooperation in expediting review
and approval of this plan request will be greatly appreciated.
Timely approvals will enable Kerr to proceed with this season's
grazing while conditions are most favorable.
1
