This letter also serves as a follow~up
discussion to the March 29 message that I reco~de onyouur
VO1Ce mail. The 1~',zar,! « . {~
collection pond averaged 1.08 ppm CN-wad and 1.55 ppm CN- f~,f ~~~1_y;,.y
total. The weekly sample of the inactive (upper) pond, ,N ~.,~.~/,/`f,
collected on March 24, showed 2.96 ppm Cid-wad and ~/ C
3.87 ppm CN-total.
On March 26, a concern on the routing of overflow material
from the cyanide mix tank was identified. The overflow from
the mix tank was directed to the grinding area sump, then to
tailings pump box, and finally to the tailings disposal area.
The control valve on the make-up water line into the cyanide
mix tank malfunctioned. An estimated 3 tank volumes (8600
gallons) containing a maximum of 6,000 pounds of sodiufi
cyanide overflowed from the mix tank and reported to the
tailings disposal area. The control valve on the water line
to the cyanide mix tank has been repaired. Overflow material
from the cyanide mix tank has been re-plumbed and is nmw
directed to the leach circuit sumps where the material will be
placed back into the milling process rather than sent to the
tailings disposal area.
with the overflow material entering the tailings disposal
area, the cyanide concentrations in the active pond increased.
The highest concentration was reported on March 27 with
values of 6.97 ppm CN-wad and 9.49 ppm CN-total. By March 28,
the cyanide levels had decreased to 4.33 ppm CN-wad and 8.67
ppm CN-total. The levels appear to be decreasing.
