Other species contributing were Saskatoon serviceberry, rubber rabbitbrush,
chokecherry, bitterbrush, and big sagebrush.
1991 Reclaimed Areas (Photographs 11 through 15)
Cover
Introduced annual and biennial forts, the most diverse lifeform in this reclamation unit, had the
highest percentage of total vegetation cover (65.8). More than half of this percentage was
provided by twolobe speedwell. Minor species contributing measurably to total vegetation cover
were burning-bush, bull thistle, prickly lettuce, yellow sweetctover, devil's shoestrings,
Russian thistle, Jim Hill mustard, pennycress, and salsify. Other species present were Iamb's
quarters, hounds tongue, pinnate tansymustard, early stickseed, tarweed, knotweed, and
mullein. Native annual and biennial forts contributed 2.1 percent of total vegetation cover.
Oakleaf goosefoot (Chen odium glaucuml, linearleaf collomia, Richardson's tansymustard
(Descurainia richardsoniil, dragonhead (Dracocenhalum parvifloruml, and denseflower
• pepperweed each provided one-fifth of this lifeform's total vegetation cover. Microsteris was
also present in less than measurable amounts. Introduced annual grasses accounted for 2.1
percent of total vegetation cover. Cheatgrass provided more than half of this percentage. Wheat
contributed the balance of this lifeform's total measured vegetation cover. Japanese brome and
cereal rye (Secale cerealel were also present.
Native perennial cool season grasses contributed 19.4 percent of total vegetation cover. Agassiz

bluegrass provided nearly three-quarters of this percentage. Mountain brome, (oxtail barley,
and thickspike wheatgrass provided the remaining portion of this lifeform's total vegetation
cover. Introduced perennial cool season grasses accounted for 4.2 percent of total vegetation
cover. Smooth brome comprised tour-Btths of this percentage. The balance wes provided by
intermediate wheatgrass. Orchard grass was also present but did not contribute measurably to
total vegetation cover.
Native perennial forts provided an average of 4.6 percent of total vegetation cover. Gumwsed
accounted for nearly two-thirds of this percentage. Western yarrow, common yampa, and
James starwort provided the balance of this lifeform's total vegetation cover.
