Cross reference to the substantially <br />revised scientific nomenclature for the flora of Western Colorado, as set forth by Weber (1987), <br />may be determined by reference to Weber and Wittman (1992). References for noxious weeds <br />included Thornton et al.(1974) and Routt Co. Extension Agent, personal communication (1993). <br />Reference Area Sampling <br />The Mountain Brush and Sagebrush reference areas were sampled to provide data for <br />comparison with reclaimed area data. Cover and herbaceous production data were collected <br />as they were in the reclaimed areas. <br />Photographic Record <br />Within each reclamation and reference area, representative color photographs were taken to <br />document the appearance of the vegetation in 1997. Within each photo, a placard identifies the <br />particular reclamation area being illustrated. <br />Statistical Methods <br />• Sample adequacy calculations were carried out using the formula as prescribed by CMLRB <br />(1988): <br />tz sz <br />Nmin = <br />dz xz <br />where: <br />t = two-tailed t-value with n-1 degrees of freedom <br />sz = sample variance (based s~.,) <br />d = 0.1 (level of precision or desired detectable reduction) <br />x =sample mean <br />• <br />5 <br />
