i
' 1.0 INTRODUCTION
Trinidad Basin Mining is currently operating a surface coal mine located in
' Delagua Canyon about 19 miles northwest of Trinidad, in Los Animas County,
Colorado. During August 1984, a vegetation study was conducted 6y Western
Resource Development (WRD) in order to establish revegetation standards for
' existing and future disturbances. Two affected area vegetation types were
identified: Pinyon-Juniper Woodland Complex and Meadow.
Trinidad Basin Mining has submitted a request to Colorado Mined Land
' Reclamation for the removal of three sediment control ponds in the eastern
portion of Section 22 of the permit area. Per the requirements of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation, the revegetated areas above the sediment ponds were
quantitatively sampled for vegetation cover and compared to the recently
established Pinyon-Juniper Woodland Complex reference area.
' This report documents the vegetation sampling, presents and discusses the
data, and compares the results to the Pinyon-Juniper Woodland Complex
reference area.

1

1

-1-
