Mr. Rick Mills - 2 - July 7, 1988
It is our understanding that the previously identified springs (M3A, M3B, M3C,
M3D) were dry during the last water year. Please notify us if this is not
correct.
Surface Water
Three stream sites are monitored; one by CYCC and two by the USGS. As
expected, relatively elevated values are reported for electrical conductivity,
total dissolved solids, sulphate, iron and manganese. Both station 900
(Foidel Creek) and Station 29 (Middle Creek} may indicate an increasing trend
for electrical conductivity; We agree that much of the impact is attributable
to the larger mine complex upstream from Mine no. 3. It is also possible that
some of the increase may be explained by recent low flows; however, these
issues must be examined in greater detail before specific conclusions
regarding material damage can be formulated.
General Content
Although the current report format is well organized and quite thorough, the
report would be enhanced by including graphs of both electrical conductivity
and total dissolved solids over time for all sites already depicted by
graphs. It would also be helpful if such other constituents as iron,
manganese, sulphate, zinc and cadmium are graphed against time for the surface
sites currently graphed in the AHR.
Please respond to this review at your earliest convenience: Thank you for
your continued cooperation.
.~
Si ncQr 1y;., ,- `
%,~ ..:
%/ `~~~''
II Berry
R"' amation Specialist
DAB/nw
cc: M.
