Subsidence Field Observations
West EIk Mine
August27-29,2002
6. Subsidence cracks were observed in sandstone bedrock and in thin soil 1,500 ft above the
western part of mined-out longwall Panel 14. The cracks aze as much as 2.5 inches wide
and 75 ft long, and cover an approximate azea 250 ft wide by 250 ft long.
7. Hummocky topography and old-looking to fresh-looking signs of mass-gravity movements
on the north and south sides of Minnesota Reservoir look similar to August 2001. Dry
conditions reduced any potential renewed movement. The most recent landslide movement
ranges in age from a few decades to many hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of years. The
landslide occurred prior to any coal mining influence.
831-032.570 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 2
December 2002
