Additional Sheets
Daniels Sand Pit #2
1997 Annual Report
Transit Mix Concrete
Permit M-73-007
Anniversary Date: ]anuary 7, 1998
The following information is keyed to the two annual report maps included with this
annual report. The maps provided are in both black and white and color.
Map 1 -West of Academy Boulevard
Not much changed in this area in the last year. However, there were two changes to be
noted.
First, through a technical revision, a truck parking area was established near the
entrance.
Second, a small amount of mining was done on the remaining sand on the east side of
this area adjacent to Academy Boulevard, but well above the level of the highway. There is
considerably more mining to be done in this area before the top of the ridge to remain reaches
the designed 8' to 12' above the level of the highway. That will be done in coming years.
No additional reclamation was done in this area.
Map 2 -East of Academy Boulevard
The mining in Phase le South continued to expand slightly eastward and dramatically
southward. This was the primary mining area for mining during the last year. Demand for
product was so great in 1997 almost half of Phase 2e was mined out. This process of mining
produces a broad floor. Once Phase 3e is well along, it is possible that the processing plant
will be moved to this side of the highway.
No extraction occurred in Phase Se (north of the Fountain Mutual Ditch).
The aquifer recharge system continued to operate through the summer months.
Noticeable increases in the ground water level can be seen in nearby areas. It is not known,
however, whether that is due to the recharge or other factors. Certainly the recharge system is
contributing to that rise.
The tree planting continued to show good success.
A number of wells were established around the perimeter of the operation. These wells
are used to pump out groundwater and treat it before returning the water. This is part of a
process of cleaning the groundwater from solvents introduced into the groundwater at the
Schlage Lock manufacturing plant east of this site. The mitigation program is taking into
account the fact that land near or even adjacent to the wells will eventually be mined.
Daniels Sand Pit #2 Annual Report Due: January 7, 1998 Additional Sheets page 1 of 2
