Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division would like to provide a comment and make a request about the hydrologic
monitoring in the Elk Creek Mine.
The Probable Hydrologic Consequences section of the permit discussed mine inflows to
the Somerset Mine and dischazges of water from the Sanborn Creek Mine. There has
been nothing added, however, to accommodate the new Elk Creek Mine.
We request that Oxbow Mining LLC add a section to the Annual Hydrology Report
noting mine water inflows in the Elk Creek Mine.
Given the level of interest in groundwater at the mine and the fact that the question will
inevitably arise as to the potential for eventual filling of the Elk Creek Mine and
subsequent, post-closure water dischazge, long-term data on mine water inflows will be
valuable in the future.
Thanks for your consideration.
incerely,
Jim Bllrllell
Environmental Protection Specialist
Office of Offrce of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
