Active mining continued at the new mine during 1994. Some
additional clearing and topsoil stripping was required to
accommodate advance of the active mining area and waste rock
stockpile area. Reclamation was accomplished on two
additional sections of former pioneer roadcut along the main
haulroad to the active mining area. Reclamation along the
haulroad is now complete. Reclamation continued at the active
mining area with topsoiling and reseeding of two pit wall
benches. Unused disturbed areas along the top of the pit wall
were also reclaimed.
Reclamation efforts continued in the old mine area during
1994 with backfilling and regrading of highwalls mined prior
to 1990. Work was finalized on approximately 1 acre of the
former highwall site.
The portion of Eagle County Road #51 which serves as a
haulroad was treated with dust suppressant during the summer.
Roadbase material was replaced on worn areas of the road at
that time. Work was also completed in widening the narrow
road sections at the double curves overlooking Interstate 70.
Fill material from those narrow sections was used to backfill
and reclaim the former of hairpin-curve section of road that
was relocated in 1993.
A total of approximately 390,000 tons of gypsum rock were
shipped from the mine during 1994.
-3-
