shows the typical seasonal variations it relates to total dissolved <br />solids. This occurs as a result of spring runoff recharging the <br />alluvium during the spring period, and the runoff typically has <br />lower dissolved solids concentrations than the alluvial water. As <br />is shown on the table the alluvial water is dominated by calcium, <br />except that in this well there are higher concentrations of <br />magnesium and sodium, which most likely reflects a different type <br />of alluvial sediment. The water, as like the water measured in the <br />other alluvial wells, is strongly bicarbonate. Likewise, sulfate <br />ions dominate the alluvial water. <br />The elevated iron and manganese concentrations are associated with <br />the high total suspended solids found in the well. During the <br />bailing of the well the sediments which settle in the bottom of the <br />well are mixed in the well water and picked up during sampling. <br />Iron and manganese are associated with these sediments. The water <br />quality data are presented on tables 36 through 42. <br />It does not appear that the alluvial water quality, as measured in <br />by this well, has changed significantly as a result of mining <br />activities which have occurred in the Fish Creek AVF study area. <br />IP <br />• <br />• <br />3.0 SIIRFACE WATER <br />Springs <br />There is one spring located within the Fish Creek AVF study ar ; <br />however, the spring is dr r the majority of the year. The f ow <br />data presented on table shows that it only discharged tw ce <br />during the period, and t flows were relatively minor. W ter <br />quality samples were obtained from the spring when it was <br />discharging and it the total dissolved solids concentrations ged <br />from 438 to 687 mg/1. The water, as shown on table 45', is <br />typically predominated by calcium, however the last s ple <br />indicated more a mixed calcium/sodium water. It is believed the <br />elevated metals c centrations are assn 'ated with the metal pipe <br />the water is dischar from an edime s trapped within the <br />sample. n <br />`` <br />Two surface stations are utilized to measure water flows and <br />quality up and downstream of the Fish Creek AVF study area. The <br />current sites are SW3A, upstream station, and SW4, downstream <br />station.
