• 1992 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT
1992 Disturbance Area
The 1992 Annual Reclamation Report, Exhibit 92.1, shows the limits of disturbance as of
January 1, 1993. This Line generally depicts areas of soil removal ahead of mining.
Actual disturbance ahead of mining for 1992 was 13.3 acres in the wo Lf Creek mining area
and 0.0 acres in the Yadge mining area.
Bec kfilling and Grading
The 1992 Annual Reclamation Report, Exhibit 92.1, shows the areas that were graded during
1992. There were 22.1 acres graded in the Nolf Creek mining area and 3.9 acres graded in
the wedge mining area. Existing Topography for the Wedge and Wolf Creek Nining areas is
shown on Exhibit 12-9, Post Mining Topography submitted to the Division on January 28, 1993
as part of Technical Revision 27.
Soil and good Monitoring
Peabody is required by Permit C-80-005 to monitor the selvage, storage, and redistribution
• of soil and spoil handling operations et Seneca II Nine. Specific programs include
documenting soil recovery, verifying soil redistribution thickness, determining final
graded spoil quality, determining soil fertility, evaluating plant rooting characteristics,
recording the source of E'eplaced soil, and completing an annual soil balance. The
following sections present the soil end spoil monitoring date for the 1992 calendar year.
Soil Recovery Documentation. Soil recovery limits and depths were recorded on the soil map
by Peabody's soil scientist on April 15, July 13, September 18, October 6, and October 14
to document the actual thickness of soil recovered during the 1992 field season. Color
ph otogrephs of the soil profile and landscape were taken to verify the thickness of soil
recovered. The field notes and photographs for each soil observation site ere on file at
Peabody's office in Flagstaff, Arizona.
This quality control information is used to verify soil salvage estimates predicted from
the baseline soil survey, confirm soil map unit types, justify selvage thickness, and
evaluate soil suitability. About 6.1 acres of mixed brush sandstone-derived soils, 5.7
scree of reclaimed soils, end 1.5 acres of aspen swele colluviel soils were selvaged in
• advance of the 4olf Creek pit. Observations indicated very suitable loamy soil was
selvaged down to the fractured sandstone or regraded spoil. The thickness of recovered
soil ranged from 0.5 feet on ridgetops to abouC 4.0 feet in Swale locations.
1
