GROUND MATER
•The water level monitoring on the Rapid Creek and Cottonwood Creek piezometers
was reduced to a monthly schedule through the summer and fall. The results of
monitoring for the 1987 season are shown on data page GA-1. The piezometers
on lower Rapid Creek, GWMS-OlA and 016, and on upper Rapid Creek, GWMS-03A and
03B, show a typical seasonal variation with high levels in the early summer and
low levels in the late summer. The relative water levels on these piezometers
remained uniform during the year. The Cottonwood Creek piezometers GWMS-02A
which is developed in the lower portion of the alluvial material showed little
variation while -02B which is developed in the entire alluvial interval showed
a large variation. The water levels in the Rapid Creek and Cottonwood Creek
piezometers were generally lower than in 1986 corresponding to lower surface
water flows in 1987.
The monitoring on the Cameo refuse disposal area piezometers was done quarterly.
The following is a listing of average water levels in these piezometers for the
past 4 years:
Hater Year CRDA-O1 Elev. CRDA-02 Elev. CRDA-03 Elev.
1984 13.6 4866.4 26.6 4854.8 21.0 4863.3
1985 14.9 4865:2 28.4 9853.0 23.8 48b0.5
1986 15.1 4864.9 27.0 4854.4 21.1 4863.2
1987 16.1 4863.9 25.8 4855.6 20.4 4863.9
The water level in CRDA-O1 continued to decrease and the water levels in CRDA-02
and 03 continued to increase. A slight seasonal variation was noted in all three
piezometers.
The piezometers at the unit train loadout, UTL-O1 thru 04, showed a seasonal
change. As shown on the following table, the average water levels on all 4 points
were the lowest since monitoring began.
Mater Year UTL-O1 UTL-02 UTL-03 UTL-04
1984 7.5 7.0 4.9 3.5
1985 7.9 7.8 6.2 3.5
1986 7.9 6.5 4.8 3.6
1987 10.3 8.5 7.3 4.8
The UTL piezometers are believed to be closely related to the Colorado River
Water level. The Colorado River reached lower levels in 1987 than in the past
few years.
MINE MATER
The mine inflows studies for this year's report were done in October and November
1987. The schedule for the annual mine inflows studies will be changed to
September for future reporting. Tables M87-1 and 2 are a summary of locations
monitored, flows and field measurements. The location numbers correspond to
monitoring locations shown on the 1987 Mine Inflows Map.

- 3 -
