Additional Page
2005 Annual Report
Volmer Pit
M-1983-035
Schmidt Construction Company
Anniversary Date: May 12
NOTE: THIS ANNUAL REPORT IS NOT ACCOMPANIED BY A ANNUAL REPORT FORM. TO
DATE THE FORM HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED. ALL OTHER INFORMATION IS INCLUDED. IF
THE FORM HAD BEEN RECEIVED, NO CHANGES TO LAST YEAR'S FORM WOULD HAVE
BEEN REQUIRED.
Overview of Permit Year: There was limited activity at this site during the last year. The pit was expanded
somewhat to the east and almost 3 acres were backfilled and graded, but has not yet been seeded. The existing
condition is similar to the way it was when the 2004 annual report was submitted. One of the large recycled
asphalt stockpiles has been removed; one stockpile remains. The area where the stockpile was removed has
been backfilled and graded and is in preparation for seeding.
Annual Repott Maps: A map is provided that shows the current condition of the site. This is a new version
of the annual report map. It was created through the use of an overlay on a satellite image of the site with a '/z
meter per pixel resolution. The image was taken on Jan 1, 2002 and was obtained by merging several high
resolution images acquired from the terraserver.com web site. Previous annual report maps did not have the
benefit of the aerial imagery, Some features have been altered in location from previous atutual report maps,
although the accuracy of affected land measurement changed very little. That is, previous maps were accurate
with regard to acreage, but not necessarily the exact location of the various features. This map also contains a
GPS grid that can be used for locating future changes.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land, as shown on the map, increased to 37.54 acres, an increase of
about 2 acres from 2004. This increase is due to additional mining. The amount of land that has been
revegetated is essentially equal to the total affected land that has not been revegetated. Currently, disturbed to
revegetated land is at a 1:1 ratio.
Revegetation: The site is stable and is not subject to erosion off site. Spraying to control diffuse knapweed
was implemented and appears to have significantly reduced the amount of weed cover, but more will be done in
the future as control has not achieved the level desired. Vegetation growth remains strong; in all but the most
harsh sites.
Expected Activity (2005 - 2006): Limited. Schmidt is continuing to explore the possibility of placing a batch
plant at this site in the future, but it will be dependent upon local government approval. It has also been learned
that at some time in the future the high north berm will be removed and will be replaced by a new highway
called Research Parkway. It is not known when this will occur, but when it is implemented a portion of the
northern side of the operation will need to be released so the highway can be constructed.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a self bond. The most recent Division Balance Sheet is included.
Schmidt Construction 2005 Annual Report M-1983-035 Vollmer Pit Page 1 of 1
