/ - •
•
was expected to occur. During my review, I noted the following:
Water levels in the Wadge overburden have been fairly constant since 1984, exhibiting
seasonal fluctuations. TDS has stabilized in Wadge overburden well 008-77-58, but
continues to exhibit a slight increase over time in well 008-79-6, also Wadge
overburden.
The Foidel Creek alluvium also exhibits seasonal fluctuations for the period of record.
Seasonal vaziation is apparent in field conductivity measurements in Foidel Creek
alluvial well 008-AV-l, but an increasing trend is evident at 008-AV-2. TDS at 008-
AV-2 hit an all time high (1970 mg/I) on 3/31/95. CYCC notes that they will continue
to monitor the direction of this trend, and I would recommend that the Division do so
also.
Water levels in the spoils wells show a peak in the Spring of 1995, which corresponds
to heavy precipitation recorded, but exhibit normal seasonal vaziation otherwise. TDS
values are within established ranges.
Flow values recorded on Foidel Creek and Middle Creek show typical seasonal
vaziation, and correspond to the heavy precipitation recorded in the Spring. TDS at
Site 29 shows a decreasing trend after peaking in the late 1980's to eazly 1990's. TDS
at Site 700 appears to be decreasing, but is still within the historic range for that site.
Site 900, which is upstream of the mine, shows a steady increase since 1975.
In conclusion, monitoring results to date are within predictions in the PHC, and do not warrant
reevaluation of the PHC at this time.
I noticed a few minor problems with CYCC's graphic representation of data, which should be
corrected. Figures 8, 9, 10, 18, and 19 should be updated to include data through the 1995 water
year. Values for spoils well 008-SP-SA are graphed, but not for 008-SP-4B. It would be helpful if
4B were graphed as well.
If you or the operator have questions or need additional information regarding my review, please let
me know.
SLB\012897
Joe Dudash 2 January 28, 1997
