•
After their review of last year's Seneca II AHR, the CDMG made several
comments in a letter dated August 14, 2001. Following here is SCC's
response to those comments.
Item 1: The CDMG commented on the status of Wells SWU8 and SWC15. The
monitoring program will be revised to indicate that all monitoring at
these two wells will be discontinued.
Item 2: The CDMG commented on the surface water standards used in the
AHR. The CDOH Reg. No. 33 standards recommended by the CDMG include the
use' of 'Table Value Standards' (TVS). These TVS's require complex
mathematical equations to calculate. Due to other projects undertaken
by the mine hydrologist this year, SCC will be unable'to comply with the
CDMG's request this year. Hopefully, SCC will be able to take the time
required to computerize these TVS's for the 2002 AHR, For this AHR, SCC
will continue to use the CDOH Reg. No. 31 agricultural standards.
Item 3: The CDMG commented on SCC's ground water quality discussion.
No response is required.
Meteorological Data
Precipitation data was obtained at the Seneca II Mine using a Belfort
Weighing Bucket Rain Gage. Daily precipitation data for this year are
presented in Table 1. Total monthly precipitation data collected since
1961 are presented in Table 2. Where indicated, data from the U.S.
Weather Service - Hayden Station were used. Temperature, wind speed and
direction data are presented in Appendix B of the Seneca IZ-W AHR. The
Seneca II-W Mine Meteorological Station located approximately seven
miles southwest of the Seneca II Mine. Climatic conditions are similar
between the two mines.
Data from the National Climatic Data Center's Hayden Station was used to
evaluate the precipitation trend. For this year, 14.66 inches of
precipitation was measured, which was 2.18 inches (13~) less than the •
1961-1990 average. Only November, February, July and August were above
2
