!~. coar ~r~r
INTRODUCTION
Xen (Man) Afuu - Gmang Plan
Kerr Coal Company (Kerr) operates the Kerr (or Marr) Mine, an existing
surface coal mine located approximately ten miles east of Walden,
Colorado in Jackson County. Consistent with the obJective of returning
disturbed lands to productive postmining use, Kerr has progressively
reclaimed disturbed areas. The following summarizes reclaimed acreages
and corresponding dates for completion of permanent revegetation
seeding:
^ Seeded 1986 - 11.24 acres
^ Seeded 1984 - 1.27 acres
^ SPpded 1983 - 23.26 acres
^ Seeded 1981 (Includes minor areas reseeded in 1983) -
43.07 acres
^ Seeded prior to 1981 (Includes minor areas reseeded in
1983) -30.25 acres
A total of approximately 109 acres has been reseeded to date.
Consistent with the commitments presented in Sections 780.18(b) and
816.115 of the Kerr Permit Application Document, Kerr proposes to
implement a grazing plan for most of the existing reclaimed area. The
proposed plan reflects Kerr's desire to encourage woody plant
reestablishment, increase vegetative diversity, and demonstrate
revegetation success. The parameters and practices presented in this
plan have been developed in consultation with both the Bureau of Land
Management (BI.M) and the Colorado State University -Cooperative
F~ctension Service (F~ctension Service).
1
