Dept. of Natural Resources
As you requested, please find attached a plan to repair
the slide area and the affected drainage system. This
plan is for the April, 1984 "landslide" (slump) which
is located between the portal bench and the upper di-
version ditches #2 and #4. The plan consists of
"Guidelines and Specifications", Drawings A, B, C and
D.
Since the slide was caused by water leakage from a break
in the existing buried 30 inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP),
the scarped area will be graded and resloped. The exist-
ing 30 inch CMP is broken in several places and we feel
it would not be wise to repair the pipe in its present
location since it cannot be easily monitored and any
subsequent movement of the old slide would cause a new
break. Placing the culvert on the surface will make it
easier to monitor, maintain, and correct any future
problems (see Figure A on Drawing A). The new 36 inch
half CMP will be set 16 inches in the surface. The
full 36 inch CMP will be used on the corners and by
the manhole (see Figure A on Drawing A). The new 36
inch CMP will connect into the manhole at the same
location as the existing 30 inch CMP.
Ditches #2 and #4 empty into an area which was con-
structed of rip-rap to prevent erosion but was not
sealed with concrete to prevent leakage. This area
will be graded so the discharge from ditches #2 and #4
will empty into the 36 inch half CMP. The headwall
will be installed with a 15' x 26' collection area
and will be sealed with shotcrete so no leakage can
occur (Figure B on Drawing A).
AMCO-6204
