The Mine Area Coal Aquifer well is designated as 79111. The Mine Area
Overburden wells are designated as 79-1 and 79-2. Water levels were measured and samples
taken during October 1991 and April 1992 as designated in the Monitoring Plan . The field data
from the Confined Ground Water Wells are contained in Exhibit A, 1992 Field Data. The
individual analyses of samples collected are presented in Exhibit B, 1992 Coal Aquifer Water
Quality Analyses and Exhibit C, 1992 Overburden Water Quality Analyses. The data are
summazized on Table 1, 1992 Ground Water Statistics.
3.1 MINE AREA COAL AQUIFER
During 1992, a limited amount of water was encountered in the mine pit (site 328) indicating
no obvious impact on ground water resources. The majority of the water that was encountered
was a result of snowmelt and precipitation. The mine area coal aquifer well (79-61) was
monitored and sampled in October 1991 and April 1992. Table 1, 1992 Ground Water Statistic,
presents the water quality summary for the year. The coal aquifer remains much lower in total
dissolved solids than the overburden aquifer, indicating perched aquifers with no intermixing.
For comparison purposes, the mean field and laboratory analyses values for the last six years are
presented in Table 2, Historic Mine Area Coal Aquifer Water Quality Data. The minor
variations shown for some parameters are a result of modifying the monitoring program to
reflex one monitoring si[e versus four sites monitored in past years.
3.2 MINE AREA OVERBURDEN
As previously stated, limited water was encountered in the pit during the year, indicating no
impatt on ground water resources. Table 1, 1992 Ground Water Statistics presents a summary
of the field and lab results for the year.
For comparison purposes; the mean field and laboratory analyses values-fo the lazt six years are
presented in Table oric Mine Area Oserbstr ater ualit Dat As shown, over the
past five years, there had been a slight but steady rncrease associated with total dissolved solids
(TDS) values and a steady decrease in SO„ Fe and Mn values. In 1992, however, these values
have leveled off. The remainder of the quality parameters show minor fluctuations or no
change.
\iORK\PRJVCFRR\IV9rF1YD.tiPT
vov9~ s,,, ACZ !nc ' P.O.
