(BRL) submitted its combined 1998 Annual Hydrology,
Subsidence and Inflow Reports for the Bowie No. 2 Mine in April of 1999. You recently
forwarded the combined report to my attention and requested adequacy comments
addressing the subsidence report. I offer the following comments for your
consideration.
The subsidence monitoring report for 1998 consists of one summary page. Mining
initiated in 1997 had not impacted any of the concerned springs, ponds or landslides as
of the completion of this first annual subsidence report.
Visual inspection of the known historic and modern landslides was conducted by David
Jenkel. No new or rejuvenated landsliding was discerned during Mr. Jenkel's
inspections in June and November of 1998.
cc: Larry Routten
doc: M:\COAL\JAP\62SU698.WPD
JP/jp
