Final West Elk Mine 2005 Annual Hydrology Report 11
• stations in Dry Fork: Upper, Middle and Lower Dry Fork, were established to monitor the effects
of mining along the drainage and to support the Minnesota Creek Augmentation Plan. In October
2005 the monitoring station at Upper Dry Fork was relocated upstream to replace the previous site
that had been flooded by a beaver dam.
3.1.3.4 Poison Gnlch
Poison Gulch is an ephemeral stream that is tributary to upper Dry Fork and flows only in response
to storm events and spring runoff. The Poison Gulch drainage drains the northem portion of the
un-mined SOD coal lease area and the area south of the SE mine panels area adjacent to mine
Panels 13 and 17 (Map 2). The monitoring station in Poison Gulch was established in 2005 to
provide baseline data for the SOD area.
3.1.3.5 Deer Creek
•
Deer Creek is an ephemeral stream drainage that is tributary to middle Dry Fork and flows only in
response to storm events and spring runoff The Deer Creek drainage drains the northem portion of
the un-mined SOD coal lease area (Map 2). The monitoring station in Deer Creek was established
in 2005 to provide baseline data for the SOD area.
3.1.3.6 Horse Gulch and East Gulch. Eas[ of Horse Gulch
Horse Gulch and East Gulch, East of Horse Gulch are ephemeral stream drainages that are tributary
to Dry Fork and flow only in response to storm events and spring runoff These streams flow into
Minnesota Reservoir, drain the SE mine panel azea and areas located within the un-mined SOD
coal lease area (Map 2).
3.1.3.7 Upper and Lower Minnesota Creek

Minnesota Creek is the major stream that drains the southern part of the Project Area. There aze
two monitoring stations in Minnesota Creek: Upper Minnesota located upstream of Dry Fork and
lower Minnesota Creek located downstream of Dry Fork. The upper Minnesota Creek monitoring
station was established by the USFS in 1977 to collect baseline data for the un-mined SOD coal
lease area and to support of the Minnesota Creek Augmentation Plan. These two stations monitor
[he hydrologic effects of mining the SE mine panel area (Map 2).
September 2006 HydroGeo, Inc.
