4.0 SURFACE WATER
Trapper Mine monitored one stream site and twenty active NPDES discharge sites during
2005. The stream site Flume Gulch (S-1) was sampled during June 2005 sampling to characterize
spring flows at this location. Flow was observed at NPDES sites 001, 002, 011, 020, 021 and 023 in
2005. Baseline stream site East Pyeatt (S3) is also NPDES site 011. Sites were monitored weekly
throughout the year. Sites NPDES 005, 008, 009, 012, 013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 018, 019 and 024 did
not discharge dwing 2005. Maps No. 2-1 through 2-3 show the locations of these surface-water
sites.
4.1 SURFACE-WATER FLOW
The 2005 flow data tabulated in Appendix C in Table C-1 represents instantaneous
I~
in 2005 at the Trapper Mine due to the precipitation being 2.4 inches of lower than average.
measurements associated with NPDES water-quality sampling. Surface runoff was similaz to normal
Figures Gl through C11 present the instantaneous flow versus time for the Trapper NPDES
sites for 2005. Flow occurred during the weekly samples between January 4, 2005 and June 28,
2005, October 11 and December 6 and the last week in December at NPDES 001. The high flow
during sampling was a flow of 348 gpm on January 11, 2005 which is a typical peak at this site.
High flows due to snowmelt at NPDES 001 and NPDES 002 during 2005 were typical of average
conditions (see Figure C-1). Surface flow at NPDES 011 was observed during several samplings of
this site in 2005 (see Figure C-2). Figure C-3 shows that very low flow from NPDES site 020
occurred during 2005. Three lazger peak flows occurred from NPDES site 021 during 2005. These
peaks occurred during May, June and November at NPDES site 021 in 2005 {see Figure C-3).
Trapper Mining Company 4-1
2005 Annual Report
