. ,.•
sampling at the time of peak productivity. Sampling therefore will estimate peak
productivity, not cumulative productivity. The Table 5 values probably reflect cumulative
productivity from two, and maybe even three, cuttings during the growing season.
When we spoke in December, you indicated that average levels of management
and a crop dominated by grasses rather than alfalfa could both be reasonably expected to
result in reductions of 25% to the expected productivity. If both characteristics applied,
this would result in estimates of 3000 and 2000 pounds acre per soil type. We did not
discuss how these values would relate to peak rather than cumulative productivity. It
would greatly help us and the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology if you would
elaborate further on your expectations for these soil types. We assume that you will want
to see the property prior to making a recommendation. We would like to meet with you
toward the end of April when the snow cover is gone, but I will call in mid April to see
what your schedule looks like.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any questions prior to
meeting on site, please do not hesitate to call me at (303) 733-5368.
Sincerely,
Matthew S. Hayes
President
CC: Jim Stover, J.E.
