Soil and overburden was stripped and stockpiled,
roadways completed, part of the road paved, and roadsides were planted.
Annual Report Maps: There are two annual report maps enc]osed that show the affected land as a shaded
zone. It is important to note that the shaded area on the map is not broken down into other units and the
boundaries of the affected land on these maps, although close to actual, may not be exact in all locations.
Now the operation has achieved a stable development condition Centennial Materials will initiate a
mapping system that will allow for more accurate placement of the many features and details involved in a
complex quarry operation such as this one. For this year all that can be shown is the general location of the
affected lands. The affected land description provides more definition to the location of various features.
Affected Lands: All land affected at this operation is contained within the permit boundaries and is
approximately shown on the enclosed maps. As stated above, a more precise system of locating and
mapping the various operational features is being implemented now that the operation has achieved
stability its development. The amount of affected land at this operation, including access roads, is estimated
to be approximately 80 acres. A more precise affected land value will be available in a few months and an
update can be provided if needed. Otherwise, the more accurate system will be reFlected in the next annual
report.
In the Cut Stone Quarry (western part of the site -Map 1) area there are only access roads in place.
The small side road to the pre-existing cut stone quarry has been cleared. That road is pre-existing, but
needed a few improvements.
In the principle quarry area (Map 1) the large lobe of shaded area on the eastern part of the affected
land is the actual quarry. This quarry area has been defined by the limitations of setbacks and maximum
extent of disturbance. Just to the south of the quarry is a stockpile of overburden and soil. There are two
other principle stockpiles of overburden and soil in the vicinity of the office. All topsoil/overburden
stockpiles that have been developed to date have been shaped and seeded to protect them from erosion by
wind and water.
All access roadsides have been either planted or will be planted in the very near future.
Revegetation: Other than the seeding of stockpiles and roadsides, no revegetation has been done at this
operation. This operation has just begun and therefore there has not been sufficient time to establish any
reclaimed land. However, as the seedings that have been done start to grow the vegetation will be closely
watched to determine what does well. Adjustments in the seed mixtures may be needed depending upon the
success rates of the various species planted. The areas seeded to date exhibit a wide variety of growth
environments and therefore provide an excellent baseline to refine the seed mixture, if needed, prior to full
scale quarry reclamation.
Centennial Materials, Inc. 1999 Annual Report M-89-065 Winkler Quarry Page 1of 1
