Lafarge West, Inc. Howe Pit
Bull Seep 2002 Reclamation Report
Riparian Seeding
Broadcast seeding of a riparian species mix was performed on three
distinct areas (Exhibit 1) within the reconstructed channel bottom with
permanent seed mixture shown on Table Z. The riparian seed mix was applied
on approximately 2.65 acres north of station 58+00 that was not planted with
containerized riparian species. This mix was also applied to the 2.14 acres
between stations 38+00 and 58+00 that was planted with containerized riparian
species. Seed mixture plant species and their respective pure live seed ("PLS")
application rates are provided on Table 2. Seed was applied in a hand broadcast
application at a rate of 30 PLS per square foot on May 30. Due to the extremely
muddy condition of the surface soil, seedbed preparation or surface mulching
with native hay or hydromulch was not considered necessary. Seed tags for the
applied riparian seedmix are contained in Appendix A.
Upland Permanent Seeding
Due to extremely dry soil conditions in May, seeding activities were
delayed until the end of October. Broadcast seeding of the permanent upland
species mix was performed on the side slopes and flat areas adjacent to the
reconstructed channel bottom with the mixture shown on Table 3. The upland
seed mix was applied on approximately 12.0 acres that were not planted with
containerized mesic species, This mix was also applied to the 0.82 acre area
located between stations 38+00 and 58+00 that was planted with containerized
mesic species.
