It is locatcd just north of the mitre waste
pile at the JD-6 mine, the site agreed upon in a field meeting with Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (DBMS) personnel. A map showing the location of
the lysimeter is included as Figure 1.
Following the installation of the lysimeter attempts to collect samples were begun on a
regulaz basis. To date there has been no success in collecting any water samples from
this lysimeter. On two sepazate occasions a couple ot'drops of water collected on the end
of the lysimeter tubing, but not enough water has been collected to sample. A
spreadsheet showing the dates of sampling and the results ofthose sampling efforts is
also included as Table 1.
In summary to date there has been no leachate showing up in the lysimeter located below
the JD-6 mine waste dump. Consequently I feel that the ultra conservative approach that
has been taken by Cotter Corporation shows that there is minima] potential for
contamination of the lower groundwater in this area.
]f you have further questions regarding these issues, please call me at Cotter's Nucla
office, 970-864-7347.
Respectfully,
~~ ~~~
en Williams
Manager of Mining
Cotter Corporation
dmo1O-6 - 1 -
Cotter Corporation -West Slope Operations
P.O.
