1 <br />1 <br /> <br />L~ <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br /> <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />IJ <br />1 <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />1 <br />1985 HYDROLOGIC MONTORING REPORT <br />PERMIT 79-177, ENERGY MINES 1, 2 AND ECKMAN PARK <br />OPERATOR: COLORADO YAMPA COAL COMPANY <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Energy 1, 2 and Eckman Park Mine is a surface mining operation <br />located approximately 15 miles southwest of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. A <br />comprehensive hydrologic monitoring program has been conducted at the mine <br />site from 1979 to the present. The monitor sites, fre^uency and list of <br />parameters to be monitored are based on requirements of State Mining Permit <br />79-177 and NPDES Permit CO-0027154. Water quality samples are analyzed <br />according to schedules derived from "Guidelines for the Collection of <br />Baseline Water Quality and Overburden Chemistry Data" (CMLRD, September 16, <br />1982) and NPDES Permit CO-0027154 (CWQCD, October 7, 1983). <br />MONITORING PROGRAM DESCRIPTION <br />The plan far monitoring consists of field and laboratory measurement <br />of water at Surface Discharge Points (SDP), Selected Surface Stations <br />(SSS), Sample Sites (SS), Bedrock Wells (BW), Alluvial Wells (AW) and Spoil <br />Wells (SW). The sites are shown on the map entitled CYCC Hydrologic Moni- <br />toring Program. The schedule for monitoring is shown on the attached ta- <br />bles, and is described below. <br />Ground water monitoring consists of water level measurement of bedrock <br />monitor wells and spoil monitor wells quarterly and alluvial wells monthly. <br />Sampling for full-suite analysis is performed for bedrock, alluvial and <br />spoil wells twice per year in April and October; alluvial wells are also <br />sampled for major ions in January and July. Wells sampled are shown in the <br />attached table, 1985 Ground Water Monitoring. At the time of ground water <br />sampling, temperature, pH and electrical conductivity are measured using <br />EPA-approved equipment. The parameters analyzed for bedrock wells (BW), <br />spoil wells (SW) and alluvial wells (AW) are shown in the attached table, <br />1985 Ground Water Quality Analyses. <br />1 <br />
