(EFN) prepared this information summary in response to questions <br />raised by the State of Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, Department of Natural <br />Resources, concerning the potential for the West Sunday and Sunday Mines to be Designated <br />' Mining Operations (DMO). In meetings with Division Staff, the question has also arisen as to <br />whether or not these mines would adversely affect human health or the environment. <br />' As follow-up to previous correspondence and meetings, EFN has cnn+mari~rd relevant available <br />' information which supports exemption of these mines from DMO status. <br />' This summary includes relevant available information in the following azeas: <br /> • Land Use and Demography <br />' Potential Huntan Exposure <br /> • Wildlife Species <br /> • Potential Wildlife Impacts or Exposure <br /> • Radiometric Survey <br />' Soils <br /> • Stratigraphy <br />' Groundwater <br /> • Surface Water <br />1 <br /> Section 34-32-112.5.(2) of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation act provides that the Boazd <br />' shall exempt operations from designation if "acid- or toxic-producing materials will not be used, <br /> stored, of disturbed in quantities sufficient to adversely affect any person, any property, or the <br />' environment".
