1
' 4.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Even though the Sunday properties aze excluded under Subpart b, this information summary and
' review has considered the broader issue of whether or not the operation of these mines poses any
significant level of risk to hiunan health or the environment. The following conclusions can be
' drawn from the available iN'ormation summarized herein:
' Neazest residents are 16 miles away.
• Area poorly suited to either recreational or homesite/urban development.
' - Soils are used extensively for prospecting and mining of uranium and vanadium,
aze poorly suited for recreational or urban development.
• Minor impacts to wildlife (deer, elk, antelope)
' - human presence, activity and mine-related disturbance discourages use as winter
range.
• Natural levels of radioactivity in many azeas surrounding mines aze greater than at mine
' site.
' Groundwater in contact with irregulazly-distributed ore zones may contain naturally
elevated levels of uranium or other minerals.
' - infiltration from surface is highly unlikely, due to net evaporation and shales
underlying land surface.
- groundwater encountered azound the 500-foot level of the mine.
' HOUSE]LSU4'M~WPM0.pLLEllFll59nW5UN5VN RPl'
Page 17
