Extra time was spent <br />moving slide material down tic `ace to be stockpiled. Rich Greenwood <br />and Joe Goode o~ RhIC wire ouC 11-6&7-84 to inspect the bottom of the toe ex- <br />cavation. They approved of the depth of excavatlon, even though not to the de- <br />sign depth. A copy of their inspection report is attached. Replacement <br />and compaction o` the colluvinm began ou 11-7-84 on the north end as exca- <br />vation on the south end c.uCinu,d. The south end o~ the toe excavation was <br />completed 1]-8-';%~. Conditions on the south eud were discu:aed with Rich <br />Greem~inod over the plcon~~ to veri.~y that the excavation was complete; even though <br />8' above dcsi.gn depth. The elaborate pumping systems proposed f.or toe excavation <br />• were noC needed. A small ;;ump pump •.+as used to pwnp the 15-"D gpm Glowing into <br />t'he toe. <br />L:v;{:`illinZ an~i cun,pactica-~ o" culluvium began 11-7-84. Compaction <br />tests were taken approximately every 2 days. 1Jestern Colorado testing was used <br />during the Eirst month of compaction while waiting on our own license and <br />nuclear density meter. Attached are copies of compaction tests and associated <br />proctor tests. Lab dry tests weredone on some of the samples to establish a <br />moisture cnrrect.ion factor, i,ab moisture reports are also attached. Compaction <br />tests 3293 wrre found to be bad in both the. first and second test, 35&36, until <br />a moisture correction o~'.1•I'1.6was lound From a lab•Moisure was discussed with <br />R~1G several times with no great concern indicated. Compaction tests 44fi45 <br />fai.lc~d even with moisture corrections. This material was on the outs lope co- <br />ver which has not been added to since due to the wet material and cold weather. <br />• Colluvium is still needed at both ends and as outslope cover.
