This
report is for the 1997 calendar year.
The Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine was reclaimed during 1994. Until the mine was reclaimed, eight wells
were monitored (LO-1, OW-3L, OW-7, OW-8, OW-12, OW-13, OW-14 & OW-15). The
groundwater monitoring wells were reclaimed late in 1994 and early in 1995. No groundwater
monitoring was performed or required during 1997 (reference table 4.6-1 page 4-85).
There was a short duration discharge from the sediment pond during the fourth quarter 1997. The
landowner had some horses on the property during the fourth quarter. Irrigation water was diverted
to the pond to water the horses. The water in the pond built up high enough to discharged through
the dewatering pipe. The discharge lasted about three weeks an amounted to an estimated 215,000
gallons.
The Operator did not water the vegetated areas during 1997. Other than the pond discharge
explained above, there was no consumptive use of water during the year at the mine site.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~~+,~ ice" -
/J.
