• Map 2
The Enhanced Reclamation Plan for this operation involves a combination of staining
and revegetation, primarily reforestation of selected portions of the quarry. Because any
Enhanced revegetation is still some time in the future, all of the Enhanced Reclamation at this
site has involved staining of rock faces. As shown on the map, four areas have been stained.
The most northerly stain was the most successful. The mottled pattern from a distance makes
the rock face actually look like it has been revegetated. The other stains were also successful in
darkening those portions of the quarry where it was applied. In most respects, these initial
stains are tests used to determine the various concentrations of stain that are most effective.
Now that has been determined, larger scale staining can be done.
During the next year, this staining will be expanded considerably. Even further
development in the techniques of staining this site may help to create patterns somewhat more
consistent with surrounding vegetation, although there is little hope a perfect match can be
made. Ultimately, the quarry face will be much darker and therefore less noticeable and
objectionable.
Annual Report Pikeview Quarry 95/96 M-77-211 Page 3
