~~ <br />::;~:':: G.ILLIFOR4fES Chicken-like Birds <br />Family Tetraonidae Grouse <br />It is doubtful whether any species of grouse is now likely to ~~ccur on <br />tlic Hennigh and Ziegle properties, even occasionally. <br />Family Phasianidae <br />Quails, Partridges, and Pheasants <br />Tracks and dusting sites of the Ring-necked Pheasant were notec; on <br />tli;~cc different days during field studies; although a Cliul:ar tuns <br />recorded in the Longmont Christmas Bird Count of 1970, favorable habitaC <br />for this species is lacking on the Hennigh and Ziegle properties; <br />careful, planned extension of riparian cover along the St. Vraia River <br />could possibly contribute to an establishment of Bobwhite populations. <br />Family I~Seleagrididae <br />'turkeys <br />Even though Turkeys may be expected to occur in the ponderosa p::ne <br />cor-unity in foothills to the west and north, habitat condition:: on the <br />ilennigh and Ziegle properties are unsuitable for the Turkey. <br />C°.ll;:R CRUIFOi'~QES <br />Family Gruidae <br />Cranes, Coots, and Allies <br />Cranes <br />Tl:e Sandhill Crane is known to occur during migration in this part of <br />Colorado; habitat on the Hennigh and Ziegle properties is not <br />especially favorable to this species. <br />Fzr~ily Rallidae <br />Fails, Gallinules, and Coots <br />5,.~~c:::l species of this family occur regionally; none was observed on <br />the study area during field studies, although American Coots were: seen <br />c.: -c:rby }:c Call Lake; on the Hennigh and Ziegle properties, present <br />ii;:,,.: ,,:.t conditions for species of this family are poor. <br />
