2000 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT
NH 1
No activity occurred on the NH1 area in 2000. Although no fertilizer was applied to any area, Exhibit 99.1 shows the
location, as well as the 2°a cut pasture yield total of about 9.0 st (2,813 Ib/acre), from the 6.4 acre area. For reference,
Exhibit 2000-2 shows the pre-1993 disturbance at NHI.
NF7~
Daring 2000, 8.20 acres of new disturbance was associated with the mining program at New Horizon 2 Mine. The 2000
Disturbance and Seeding Maps, Exhibit ?000-3 and 2000 respectively, show the areas either disturbed, reseeded, or both,
during 2000.
R~r4 fillino anri f:rarlina
During 2000, 36.05 acres were graded a[ New Horizon 2. Backfill grading was accomplished by backfilling the empty pit
with struck-shovel fleet and then final grading with D-9 dozers and 14G grader.
c,a inn ~ crari t;rnrfnn
The following soil and spoil scarification techniques were used while grading the reclamation area. Prior to growth media
soil replacement, the final graded spoil w:u scarified to a depth of 6 to 18 inches using upper shanks attached behind a motor
grader. This scarifying operation effectively reduced compaction, reduced runotF, and improvedi infiltration, while improving
rooting depths.
New Horizon Mmc is required by Permit C-81-008 to monitor replaced soil and final graded spoil and submit the information
to the Division. Monitoring programs include verifying soil replacement thickness and determining final graded spoil
quality. Exhibit 2000-6 (topsoil thickness and sample map1, and 2000-7 (backfill spoil sample map), shows the locations of
the sample sites along with the thickness of the topsoil replacement.
qr i1 n,i~l rirv
The spoil sampling and analysis program approved for New Horizon Mine is described in Section 2.05.4(2)(d)-4
Rey{~~ed gpna Mnni[nrino p~no~~n, of Permit C-81-008. Backfill spoil samples foe 2000 were collected from Cour sites
in the New Horizon 2 area. Samples were collected from the sidewalls of four foot deep pit that was excavated with a
rubber tired backhoe or front a 4 foot deep soil auger hole. All spoil samples were shipped to Servi-Tech Laboratories in
Hastings, NE for analysis.
(d: \data \wpda to\rec-repo\200Jcecrepo. docl
