I tried to look through
our files to see it; by chance, we still had the original reclamation plan bw could not find it. 1
know the pits on the site side of 124'h are a lot more recent than the one on the north side.
One of the first steps would be to insure that the topsoil has been replaced as indicated in the
original reclamation p1an..A core sample could be taken tltal would show the various lavers' of
soil in the profile. We would recommend a minimum of 6 inches, with 8-12 inches being more
desirable. If the required amount is lackim~, additional topsoil should be applied and worked into
the existing materials. This same core sample could he used to determine the fertilizer amounts
needed. Fertilizer should he applied immediately prior to planting and worked into the soil. fn
very few situations would NRCS recommend any less than 40 ibs. of nitrogen and 40 lbs. of
phosphorous he applied. We use this 'rule of thumb' for all critical area seedines.
I would recommend two different seeding mixes, based on anticipated uses. The first mix is a
low to medium height mix best suited to those areas of higher usage. These aeeas would include
the picnic, fishing access, etc. areas. This mix would consist of the fitllowing:
Blue Grama
Side Oats Grarna
Buffalo Grass (bur)
Western Wheaigrass
Slender Wheatgrass
Streambank Wheatgrass
3A PLS/ac. fir) 20°,~n = .6 PLSlac.
9.0 PLS/ac. r 15%- 14 PLS/ac.
IG.O PLS/ac. 10°/b = 1.6 PLSIac.
16.0 PLS!ac.
