Below are the highlights of the review which are
separated by subject matter.
i. Mine Inflow
Changes that have occurred in the mine since last year's
report:
A. It is apparent from the amount of inflow recorded this
year that the mine is experiencing an ever-increasing inflow
rate in the 2 North mining section. In fact, the area's
inflow has increased 70$ from 1993, up from 25.8 ACFT to 43.6
ACFT. Of the 18,327,000 total gallons of inflow recorded for
the year, 14,194,720 gallons are from the North Dewatering
Well located in the North main section. This comprises 77.5$
of all inflow recorded. The increase may be due in part to
several factors; new fracture zone penetration, coal
dewatering, precipitation infiltration, drainage from
abandoned workings above the 2 North section or a combination
of these factors. The report indicates that new fracture
zones have been encountered in the mining operations at sites
8 and 9. Therefore, the reasons for the increase could be
twofold; from new fractures coupled with drainage from the
abandoned workings above and updip from the 2 North section.
Several large underground mines have operated in the past
directly above the 2 North area. The Pioneer Canon Mine,
Canon National Mine and Liberty No.3 Mine are historic mines
directly above the 2 North section.
As for a recharge factor from direct precipitation on the
