MINREC, INC. ANNUAL HYDROLOGY REPORT PAGE 4
SPECIAL ANALYSIS
During 2004 water from the No. 1 Mine and No. 3 Mine was obtained and analyzed. Water
from the No. 1 Mine is obtained from the 6"diameter pipe flowing into the long pond. Water
from the No. 3 Mine is obtained from the 4"diameter pipe flowing into the long pond. The
parameter of interest is iron. The iron limits in the CDPS discharge permit are 0.431 mg/l
for potentially dissolved and 0.957 for total recoverable. Untreated water from the No. 1
Mine was in compliance with the CDPS discharge permit during all nine monitoring events.
Untreated water from the No. 3 mine was out of compliance for two of the ten monitoring
events. A summary of the special analysis is presented below:
S ecial Anal is
No. 1 Mine No. 3 Mine
Iron Content m /I Iron Content m
Date PD TR PD TR
03/22/04 0.05 0.06 0.51 0.56
04/13/04 0.04 0.04 0.55 0.58
04/28/04 0.03 0.04 0.41 0.43
05/11/04 0.03 0.03 0.38 0.40
05/20/04 0.03 0.03 0.23 0.25
05/27/04 0.03 0.03 0.18 0.19
06/14/04 0.02 0.03 0.15 0.16
06/24/04 0.02 0.03 0.36 0.38
07/19/04 0.28 0.31
07/30/04 0.03 0.04 0.27 0.29
Minimum 0.02 0.03 0.15 0.16
Maximum 0.05 0.06 0.55 0.58
Avera a 0.03 0.04 0.33 0.36
WET TESTS
The discharge permit requires chronic Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) tests to be performed
on effluent from outfall 001. A two species chronic WET test using C. dubia and
Pimeohales Dromelas, fathead minnow, is required semi-annually during the second and
fourth quarters. A single species chronic WET test using C. dubia is required semi-
annuallyduring the first and third quarters.
A two species chronic bioassay was performed two times (2"d and 4"' quarters) during the
year using C. dubia and Pimeahales romelas, fathead minnow. A single species chronic
bioassay was performed two times (15 and 3`u quarters) during the year using C. dubia.
Results found the effluent demonstrated no toxicity to C. dubia or fathead minnow survival
in any concentration less than or equal to the instream waste concentration (IWC).
