Annual Report Narrative Tezak No 2 Pit M-81-080
Tezak IVo 2 Pit is operated by h1ike Tezak, owner. This former
Colorado Dept. of Highways pit located 3.7 miles East of
Cotopaxi, Fremont County, Colorado, continues to produce
material primarily for the paving maintenance of the Big
Horn Sheep Canyon along US Highway 50 between Salida and
Canon City. The pit also produces rip-rap and sub-base
gravels for road construction in the area. Aririual production
volumes average 10000, although several tunes this volume may
be moved in one season during highway paving operations once
every four- or five years.
Tezak No 2 Pit affected land is 9.9 acres. 1994 reclamation
work will address 4 acres of revegetation efforts. About
half of this acreage is outside the affected land boundarie⢠
including an o.1d higfrway dept. pit and a portion of Sand
Gulch drainage. The establishrnerit of native grasses between
the eastern boundaries of the mining property and Sand Gulch
drainage is an important' aspect of erosion and sediment
control as described in the Stormwater Management plan for
this location. Additional sediment controls are plariried for
1994 including a sediment trap above the CR 37 culvert pipe
which will intersect the rnairi drainage ditch along the US 50
Right of Way. A copy of SWMP is included with this report.
Crushing and Screening operations are currently underway for
support o~f road paving operations. A mobile crushing and
process plant is operating within limits described in Air
Pollution Control Permit #87FR243P.
A copy of the grass species list is attached.
Annual Report written by KS Klco, Consulting Geologist,
POBox 338, Cotopaxi, CO 81223 719-942-4178
