•
The information assembled in this 1991 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Peabody Coal Company~s (PCC)
Seneca II Mine (State Permit No. C-80-005). Locations of monitoring sites discussed in
this report can be found by referring to Exhibit 7-2, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location
Map.
Introduction
All references to 1991 will be for Nater Year 1991 (October 1, 1990 through September 30,
1991) unless otherwise not etl. All tables referred to in the following text can be found
in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendix A is given at the beginning
of that appendix.
Between October, 1990, and September 1991, mining progressed as indicated on Figure 1
(Appendix A). From Figure 1 it is evident Shat strip mining is being conducted
simultaneously in two areas. In the southern permit area, the Nadge coal seam is being
mined, and in the northern permit area the wolf Creek seam is being mined.
. Field conductivity and pH meters are calibrated prior to each days use. The conductivity
meter is calibrated using a 0.01 molar potassium chloride solution with an electrical
conductivity of 1413 umhos/cm. The pN meter is calibrated using NBS traceable buffers
with pH values of 7 and 10.
Prior to October 1, 1989, all field conduciivi [y values found in water quality reports are
not corrected for temperature (i.e., 25° C). Field conductivity data from October 1, 1989
to March 1, 1990 were collected using a Yel Lou Springs Instrument Model 33 Meter that does
not compensate for temperature. Thet data has been corrected to 25°C using the following
formula:
where:
K = conductivity at 25° C
Km = measured conductivity at t°
C = cell constant = true conductivity of a standard/measured conductivity of a
standard (assume 1.0 if cell constant is not given)
t° = temperature at which Km was determined in ° C
•
1
