~ ~~~~~~
RECEIVED
December 15, 1994
Mined Land Reclamation Board
Division of Minerals & geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: ORION PIT APPLICATION (SAND & GRAVEL)
Gentlemen:
Utl; 19 1994
Division of Mmerars 6 ueoiogy
My wife Melodie and I own property at 7763 County Road 38 in
Mancos, Colorado which is part of the land referred to in Mr.
Kinney's application for the Orion Pit. As owners of the surface
we object to this application.
The property which Mr. Kinney wants to mine is the surface
of the property where my family and I reside. Mr. Kinney wants
to come on our property and destroy the current value by mining
sand and gravel. To my knowledge Mr. Kinney has not come on to
my property to see how deep the sand and gravel runs. I have
only 3 acres on which my house sets on. I am raising my family
on it and if allowed to mine sand and gravel there, Mr. Kinney
would not only destroy the value of my property, but would make
it an unsafe place to raise my children. We would be restricted
from using our land to the fullest, we could no longer feel safe
letting my preschool children play in the yard because of the use
of heavy equipment. This would create a major noise level and
traffic problem accessing Highway 160 north of my property. I
would not be able to raise any livestock for my children's 4H
projects as this would destroy all grazing on my land.
I am not in favor of anyone coming onto my property and
destroying the lifestyle I am living. I feel Mr. Kinney's
proposed Orion Pit is unfair to the residents of this area, they
have the right not to have their lives disrupted. Please
consider my objection to this application.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
~,1~ ~ ~a1/~/
Blake L. Mitchell,
0~1~~
