R. G. OTTO & ASSOCIATES
:~'
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A detailed survey of surface and ground wate2•
quality has been made to assess the impacts crf
sunolf or seepage from waste rock piles at tt~e
Cotter Corporation Schwartzwaldaz Miae on than
water qualitp of Ralston Creek, Jefferson County
Colorado. Surface water samples were collected
upstream and downstream o! the waste rock piles
and ground water samples were collected downe~lope
of the disposal site from September 1983 through
September 1984. Additional cross pile data on water
qualilty was obtained from other, concurrent
ooaitoriaq activities conducted by the Company.
These studies indicate that th• waste rock piles
have ao measurable impacts on water qualitp is
the stream with the possible ezceptioa of stz•eam
uranium levels. Differences between the uraa.ium
data sets preclude determination of the absence
of a measurable impact. However, th• uranium.
levels in Ralston Creek downstream of th• wane
rock piles are well below the Colorado tinter
Quality Standard.
q
~'
?.
