R. G. OTTO & ASSOCIATES
2. RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS LICENSE MONITORING DATA
Hackaround: An important source of information pertinent to the
Department of Health concern for erosion/solution of ~.dioactive
materials from the waste rock piles is the monitoring program
associated with the Radioactive Materials License for the Mine
(1FC0-369-03S). The Radioactive Materials License includes a
requirement for evaluation of impacts of the waste rock. piles oa
the natural zadiochemistzy of Ralston Cseek that is similar but
somewhat more narrowly defined than that contained in the Colorado
State Discharge permit. Concentrations of dissolved u:•aaium,
thorium 230, radium-226, lead 210 and polonium 210 as well as
,:,.
~~~~ suspended uranium and radium-226 are me:sured at surf ac:e water
locations above and below the waste rock piles.
Samnliac Procedures: Single grab samples aze
submezgiaq clean, plastic bottles beneath the
mid-stream locations, immediately upstream of
(RML11) and :t a point between the waste pile
treatment plant discharge (RMLi12, Figure 4).
is collected by Colorado Depaztmeat of Health
Cotter.
