Dames & Moore
' Texasgoif Minerals and `tetals, inc.
January 31, 1986
Page -3-
' Also during 1985 wind erosion on the crest of old tailings dam no. 1 at
the downstream end of the permit area was repaired. The uneven surface which
' had been created by the •wind was smoothed and a blanket of about 1-foot of mine
waste cock placed over the crest.
' OBSGR~lATIONS
During our site visits we have observed the construction of the heap leach
project with its emergency dam, and observed the results of the improvements on
the crest of dam no. 1. The construction of the emergency dam incorporated the
recommended remedial actions Eor the "berm" that were part of our 1984 annual
' inspection. It is our opinion that the improvements to the crest of dam no. 1
should minimize, if not prevent future wind erosion to the dam crest.
' Our observations of the east perimeter ditch discharge indicates that no
noticeable additional erosion occurred during 1985.
CONCLUSIONS
' Based on our site visits during 1935, it is our opinion that the remedial
' actions recommended as part of our 1984 annual inspection have been performed.
The construction of the emergency dam for the upper Carlton heap leach project
' has substantially improved the old tailings "berm." We did not observe any new
conditions for which we recommend remedial action. We do recommend that the
east ditch discharge continue to be observed for possible erosion which could
impinge on the heap leach emergency dam.
' 0 0 0
1
