Collins, to be mined in Mr. Glass's request :Cs presently in irrigated cropland, but has the soils found in the mti~or range sites of Overflow and Wet Meadow, as shown on the map.. 2 2~1 The Overflow Rattge Site here consists of level soil that is loamy alluvial, moderately deep, with sands and gravels at depths of 40 inches. Water tables occur seasonally at depths of 40 to 60 inches. The Wet Meadow Range Site he:: finer texture of clay loam alluvial soil with sand and gravel at depth of 12 to 40 inches. This soil is somewhat poorly drained and has seasonaly water table occurring at depths of 24 to 40 inches. Soils of both range sites would be classed as "prime land." The potential native vegetation of these range sites wduld include: 9witchgrass, Big blut:stem, Indiangrass, Western wheatgrass, Side-oats grams and Dlue grams., When reclaiming the mined area, the topsoil should be stockpiled and then used to covf:r the spoiled areas at depth of 12 inches or greater. Any part not leveled should have slopes of 3:1 or flatter. If irrigation is not used for starting vegetation, then new seedings should be mulched with straw to improve the chances for success. This will help prevent wind erosion and shade the ground to help retain moisture. 4000~/A c. of long straw should be anchored immediately after distributing with mu].cher blades that will not cut the straw.
